Map My Water is WaterCAN’s groundbreaking web-based application that allows the public to upload water testing results in real time, directly from the location being tested.
It is also South Africa’s largest fully independent, community-driven platform for water quality results, covering taps, rivers, dams and oceans across the country.
All testing results are made public to help communities make better, informed decisions about the quality of their water.
Because Map My Water is a grassroots-led initiative, anyone can get involved. With simple citizen science testing kits, water testing has become more accessible, giving communities the tools they need to hold authorities to account.

New Platform Designed with Purpose
WaterCAN has worked with OpenUp to ensure its data is credible, transparent and easily accessible to South African citizens.
Digital tools such as the Map My Water Dashboard and the annual Citizen Science Water Health Report allow users to upload and access water sample data, providing insight into the safety of key water sources across all nine provinces.
How do I Create an Account?
Anyone living in South Africa can open an account on the Map My Water platform.
Simply create an account and, if needed, order a testing kit through the platform.
