More than 500 citizen science kits were distributed across South Africa as part of WaterCAN’s annual National Water Testing Week, uniting partners and volunteers from every province. Schools, community groups, and environmental organisations took part in testing rivers, taps, and boreholes — generating hundreds of data points to strengthen local advocacy for clean, safe water. The initiative, supported by partners such as Johannesburg City Parks, where the main event was held, is part of WaterCAN’s growing national citizen science network driving accountability and water justice through evidence, education, and collaboration.
